40 Hour Ashtanga Primary Series Intensive

A new perspective on the primary series

This training will teach you how to look at the Primary Series postures in a whole new way. My approach is to help you explore the postures, not by their linear sequence, but by the things you can’t see! We will discover the invisible world of sensation underlying the postures: spinal movements, muscular actions and the flow of prana throughout the sequence. This approach honors the traditional aspects of the Ashtanga practice and personalizes them for the modern yogi.

Alignment and modifications to find your flow

Through guided practices and lectures, you will learn the entrance and exit breaths, ideal "final" positions for different bodies, alignment for each stage of the posture, and modifications for all the postures in the Primary Series.
*However, we will not include the inversions, that will be covered in another separate 3 hour training.

Teaching, discussing, learning…

Our afternoons will be spent practice teaching your classmates, which allows you time to discuss postures, explore communication, ask me questions, and to focus on just what YOU need to work on. This also helps you to learn to think on your feet to determine which modification will be most beneficial for your student. Even if you don't plan on teaching this is an incredibly helpful step of learning all the transitions, breaths and options available to you in your own practice.

Ashtanga with Erica

was my first ever yoga teacher. I still remember reading about this "new" type of local yoga class in The Morning Call and being intrigued. After my first class I was hooked. It was January 2000.
Erica was then, and is even more so now, 24 years later, the real deal. If you're yoga-curious, she will make you feel welcomed and cared for. My highest recommendation!

“Your class is the highlight of my week!

It helps me keep my sanity with...my insurmountable load of work. You are phenomenal, sometimes, I feel you read my mind when I am asking myself how to correct my posture, you always have an answer and know exactly what it takes, even remotely, through a tiny screen. You are really awesome!
You are humble and you make everyone feel welcome regardless of their level or them mistaking their left with their right!”

— Maha M., PhD

“After my wrist surgery,

I didn’t think I’d be able to do yoga again. Erica was amazing about creating an Ashtanga flow practice around my limitations. I love her commitment to continuing to practice throughout your lifetime. I can’t recommend Erica’s private sessions enough, especially to anyone who’s worried about joining or keeping up in regular classes.”
